Tripura youth held for sending email indicating possible flight hijack

Agartala, Jan 15: A youth was detained in Tripura on Thursday for allegedly sending an email indicating possible threats on flight hijack.

“Airport Authority of India passed the information that an email was sent by someone according to which possibility of flight hijack in some places has been expressed. Based on the input, we detained a youth for interrogation,” said an officer from Airport police station.

In the course of investigation, police identified Sumit Dutta, resident of Bhattapukur area in Agartala, during verification of the email.

The officer said a probe was already initiated into the issue. The police officer, however, denied disclosing the details since the investigation was going on.

According to the officer, the youth told the police that he had sent the email based on ‘sixth sense’. The officer also said that the youth was under treatment of a psychiatrist in the city a few years ago.

Meanwhile, the incident a day before commencement of operation from the new terminal building of Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport, Agartala had sent the authority into tizzy.
