Tripura Government Facilitates Joint Venture Rice Purchase at Subsidized Rates for Farmers

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during the ongoing monsoon season, the Tripura government, through the Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department and the Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare Department, is purchasing rice from farmers at a subsidized rate of Rs.21.83 per kg. This collaborative initiative is underway at the Jolaibari Motorstand, led by the efforts of the Jolaibari Agricultural Department. The initiative was inspected on Thursday by Member of Parliament Pratima Bhowmik from the West Lok Sabha Constituency and Tripura Government's Minister for Minority Welfare and Cooperation, Shuklacharan Noatia. The agricultural development projects of the Tripura government were discussed with the attending farmers. Since the establishment of the Bharatiya Janata Party's government in Tripura in 2018, the state government has been striving to double the income of farmers. The goal is to create a modern agricultural infrastructure in every agricultural sub-district, starting from modern machinery to ensuring the availability of quality fertilizers and seeds. To provide accurate advice to farmers, Farmer Friend Centers and Farmer Knowledge Acquisition Centers have been established in every agricultural sub-district. In addition, the state government, under the guidance of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, is purchasing rice from farmers at a minimum support price to ensure that farmers receive the correct value for their produced crops.

This year, the state government has set a target to procure 50,000 metric tons of rice by January 15, with only 1,650 metric tons being purchased in Jolaibari. This rice procurement program will continue until January 15, as announced by Jolaibari Agriculture Department's Director, Shridam Das.
