Tripura civic polls likely in November, announcement soon

Agartala: The much-awaited municipal elections for 20 urban local bodies including Agartala Municipal Corporation are slated to be held in the last week of November, 2021.
Sources confirmed on October 17, 2021 that elections were postponed due to the sudden spurt in COVID-19 cases in the urban areas despite the fact preparations for the elections were afoot and returning officers had already been designated to oversee the poll proceedings. The polls were scheduled to be held in December 2020 but were deferred twice for the prevailing COVID-19 situations. However, the civic bodies were now being run by administrators appointed by the government.

If sources are to be believed, the election schedule would be announced within a couple of days. "The situation has improved now and it is suitable for conducting polls in the state. This is why the state election commission has decided to announce the polls schedule and complete the entire elections procedure before December this year.
In all likelihood, the elections are going to be held in the last week of November and results will be out by December," said the source. The political preparations for the elections that are deemed as the semi-finals ahead of the 2023 Assembly elections are also seemingly intensified.
